Mark is a talented graphic designer and animator with a great aesthetic eye. He puts a lot of thought into his work, and I really appreciated what he brought to our show.
~ Steve Dildarian, Creator, Director, and Executive Producer on 'Ten Year Old Tom' (HBO Max)
Back in the early 2000s I was given the task of animating a character for the first time. Convention of the day said to use Adobe Flash, but being a plucky Motion Graphics Designer, I instinctively reached for After Effects. It was not a tool optimized for character animation, but I figured out a way to make it work. As fate would have it, this intuition and self-taught technique would stand me in good stead many years later, and ultimately, shape my whole career.
Fast forward to 2009. The cult animation studio Floyd County Productions, creators of Frisky Dingo and Sealab 2021, had a brand new show and were looking for something of an anomaly: After Effects character animators. I was shown the pilot of a show called Duchess and immediately offered a position on the team. My tenure began on episode two and the show was now known as Archer. I would go on to work on 100 episodes, contribute to the studio's Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program, and even win a couple of Emmys myself.
